Express News Service

VILLUPURAM: Vehicular traffic slowed down for over an hour on the busy stretch of NH 45 after five buses crashed one behind the other in Thenpasar village near Mailam in the early hours of Tuesday. Nobody was injured.

Local sources said the incident occurred after a tyre of an SETC bus, plying to Chennai from Udumalaipettai, went flat around 4 am on Tuesday.  While the driver and conductor were trying to change the tyre, the driver of a TNSTC bus, which was on the same lane, saw the stranded SETC bus and tried to slow down his bus in order to avert a collision.

It was then, a private omni bus, which was speeding on the lane, hit the TNSTC bus, resulting in two more buses - one TNSTC bus and one omni bus - ramming into one another. Under the impact, all the four buses finally came and rammed the stationary SETC bus. Although none of the passengers was injured in the crash, traffic slowed down for about an hour on the  Tiruchy-Chennai highway. On information, Mailam police rushed to the spot and cleared the traffic after an hour. Police registered a case.
