Missing Dornier? It's Just a Boat, Stupid

Express News Service

NAGAPATTINAM:The coastal hamlets in Sirkazhi taluk were a hotbed of excitement on Thursday when rumours were flying thick and fast that the missing Dornier aircraft of Indian Coast Guards was netted by fishermen off the coast of Sirkazhi.

However, it soon turned out to be unfounded as the unidentified object trapped in fishermen’s net and subsequently dragged to the Sirkazhi coast was found to be that of a wrecked Fibre Reinforced Plastic (FRP) fishing boat believed to have sunk several months ago.

Sources said that on Wednesday evening, four fishermen including a FRP fishing boat owner Bharathiraja had ventured from Vanagiri coast in Sirkazhi for fishing.

When they were returning on Thursday morning, an unidentified object got trapped in their net. Owing to the widespread awareness, they initially believed it to be debris of the Dornier aircraft CG-791 that went missing a month ago. However, upon tugging it to the shores, it was found to be a sunken FRP fishing boat.
