PUDUCHERRY:Murugaiyan (49) of Kalitheerthalkuppam was arrested under section 4 of the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act for allegedly sexually assaulting the 17-year-old daughter of his paramour, at her home in Nettapakkam, a few times.
Police said that based on a direction by Child Welfare Committee (CWC), a case was registered and the accused arrested.
The girl, a student of 12th standard in a Government Higher Secondary School at Nettapakkam revealed the matter to the Childline activists, when they conducted an awareness campaign, in her school, on July 10. Childline referred the matter to CWC, which took up the case.
Incidentally, the girl’s father separated from her mother, reportedly after coming to know of his wife’s illicit relationship. The accused, a family friend, has been living in Nettapakkam for over 10 years and has been visiting the family. During such visits, when the mother of the girl - a daily-wager - was away at work, he allegedly abused the girl.
