CHENNAI: The State government on Tuesday moved defamation charge against BJP leader Subramanian Swamy for his recent tweet on the health condition of Chief Minister J Jayalalithaa.
City Public Prosecutor ML Jegan moved the case on behalf of the government before the Principal Sessions Court. He submitted that Swamy had published ‘wrong’ information in his Twitter handle with regard to the health condition of Jayalalithaa on July 13, and sought to punish him for criminal defamation under Sections 499 and 500 of IPC.
