Brain Dead Man's Organs Donated

COIMBATORE: The organs of a 45-year-old man, who was declared brain dead, were donated on Saturday.

The organs of Mohan Kumar from Avarampalayam were donated to five persons. Mohan Kumar was suffering from hypertension.

He had a stroke on Wednesday and was rushed to PSG Hospital. On examination, two blocks were spotted in his brain.One block was thrombolysed, but the other couldn’t be done so. His condition worsened and on Friday by 5 am, he was declared brain dead.

His parents consented to donate his organs on Saturday morning. After finishing the formal procedures, the organs were harvested on Saturday night.

His liver was donated to a patient in PSG Hospital, kidneys to two patients, each at KMCH and Ramakrishna Hospital, eyes to a patient in Aravind Hospital and skin to a patient in Ganga Hospital. Mohan Kumar is survived by wife Mohanambal and two sons. “After he was declared brain dead, we thought of keeping him alive through his organs and decided to donate them,” said Dhanush M, son of Mohan Kumar.
