VAO Office Files Robbed; Set on Fire Elsewhere

Express News Service

PUDUCHERRY:Unidentified miscreants stole documents from a Village Administrative Office (VAO) at Urivaiyaru near Villianur on Tuesday. The documents were found burnt in a building near by.

Police said the miscreants gained entry into the VAO office by breaking open a window on the rear side of the building on Tuesday night. The workers who came to clean the office on Wednesday morning found some of the almirahs open and informed Village Administrative Officers Sundareswara Rao and Paranthaman.

Both the VAOs rushed to the spot and found that important files regarding revenue and some other documents were missing. After informing Tahsildar Sivasankaran, they preferred a complaint with the Mangalam police.

Police officials, led by sub inspector Veerappan, reached the spot and began investigations. They also found some beer bottles inside the office room. Later, finger print experts were called in to collect samples from the spot. It is suspected that the miscreants had targeted documents regarding revenue, certificate issuance etc, sources said.

The suspicion also centres around the recent announcement by a top official that some of the certificates received along with CENTAC applications have been kept aside for field verification.
