COIMBATORE: The authorities of TELC Church, Pollachi, submitted two demand drafts for Rs 2.5 lakhs to be paid as compensation to each of the two minor girls who were raped in the church premises.
Three months ago, the Coimbatore District Mahila Court sentenced a man to double life-term for the kidnap and rape of two minor girls and had ordered the compensation to be paid when it passed the verdict.
The special public prosecutor (Mahila Court), R Sarojini, speaking to Express said the manager of the church had appeared before the judge and had submitted the demand drafts.
The court appointed commissioner, K Shanmuga Nadhan, who was directed to take care of the well-being of the two victims till they turned 18, would deposit the drafts in separate bank accounts held by the two girls. He would then have to submit a confirming affidavit to the court.
Sarojini also added that the legal guardians of the two girls would receive a small sum as interest from the bank, which would be used to educate the two girls. The girls would be able to withdraw the money once they were 18.
The State government had already given `5 lakhs compensation to the two girls, the prosecutor added. The girls were also promised Government jobs once they became adults.
The two girls are now living with their families and are going to school.
In December 2014, Guru alias Veerasamy was sentenced to double life imprisonment for the kidnap and rape of two minor girls.
