Salem Man Dies of H1N1 in Kovai hosp

SALEM: A 47-year-old government school teacher died of swine flu here on Saturday.

Sources said that Jaheer Hussain (47) a resident of Maruthi Nagar near Ammapet and a teacher in Ammapet Corporation Boys Higher Secondary School, two weeks ago was admitted to a private hospital here with fever. Doctors after diagonising him found symptoms of swine flu and referred him to the Kovai Medical Center and Hospital (KMCH) in Coimbatore on November 10.

On Saturday, Jaheer died at the KMCH without responding to the treatment.

Meanwhile, corporation workers as a precautionary measure distributed medicines in Maruthi Nagar.

Locals complained that there was no proper drainage and road facilities in their locality. After the recent rains, water and sewage were stagnating at many points intensifying the mosquito menace.

“The deceased was suffering from respiratory problem and chronic infection for the past six years. After he was admitted to the KMCH, his blood samples were sent for test. The result confirmed that Hussain was down with H1N1. Following this, we conducted a special camp in the locality and treated those having fever,” Jagadeesh Kumar, Deputy Director (Health) told Express.
