High Quality Teachers Need of the Hour: Rao

PUDUCHERRY: Emphasising that imparting of quality education is essential for the growth of individuals, Principal of the Regional Institute of Education, Mysore, Dr D G Rao, on Monday said that quality teachers equipped with adequate skills can play a stellar role in improving the overall standard of education in the country.

Addressing a gathering at the inaugural function of the regional consultative meeting on the New Education Policy, 2015, he called for proper selection of candidates, equipping them with adequate skills through training and placing them at the right level to achieve the goal of providing quality education.

He said if the nation can find ‘good’ teachers, then everything will fall in place.

Vice chancellor of Pondicherry University, Dr Anisa B Khan, said that the Union Government is all set to effect a quantum change in the education sector as Prime Minister Narendra Modi wants the nation to emerge as a manufacturing hub and power house of skills.

She added the nation can become a knowledge super power if only the education imparted is of high-quality.

Dr Lalithamma, Dean, School of Education, Pondicherry University said the first national education policy was drafted in 1968 followed by the one in 1986 to which some modifications were made in 1992.

The Dean also added that in the light of the changes that have taken place since then, an attempt is being made now to come out with a new educational policy by the Centre.
