Express News Service

COIMBATORE: The Coimbatore District Police have registered a case against a tractor driver after he tried to run over a Village Administrative Officer (VAO) and her office assistant near Kalaignar Nagar at Kurumbapalayam in Pollachi on Friday.

Pollachi Taluk Police said a former panchayat president had informed VAO Shanthi and office assistant Tamilarasan, that red soil was being transported illegally to a construction site.

Soon, Shanthi and Tamilarasan went to Kurumbapalayam and found the tractor, driven by Senthil from Karapadi, being loaded with red soil. When questioned about it, Senthil allegedly engaged in verbal duel with Shanthi. She then asked Senthil to come to the tahsildar’s office in Pollachi. However, Senthil then began emptying the tractor and later allegedly tried to run over Shanthi and Tamilarasan.

The VAO has complained about the incident to Pollachi tahsildar Jaya Chitra, who registered a police complaint. A case was registered against Senthil under Sections 189 and 353 of the Indian Penal Code.

Police confirmed that they have taken Senthil into custody and were questioning him about the incident.
