VELLORE: For the first time in 15 years, the AIADMK will be fielding women candidates for the constituencies under the district. The party announced Jayanthi Padmanabhan, a first-time contestant, from Gudiyattam (SC) constituency and Dr Nilofer Kafeel, chairperson of the Vaniyambadi municipality, to contest from Vaniyambadi constituency. In 2001, the party had fielded three women from Gudiyattam, Pernambut and Arakonam. All three women had won. AIADMK has also retained two sitting MLAs - K C Veeramani from Jolarpet and M Kalaiarasu from Anaikattu (who had defected from PMK to join AIADMK recently). In the 13 constituencies in the district, the party has introduced as many as seven new faces to contest the upcoming polls.
