Obey Road Safety Rules, Urges Jaya

Chennai: Chief Minister J Jayalalithaa on Saturday urged the people of Tamil Nadu to stick to road safety rules for a safe journey. In her Road Safety Week message, she said the theme for this year was “Road Safety, Time for Action”. The 27th Road Safety Week would be during January 10-16. The State set aside `65 crore for road safety programmes during 2015-16, she said.  Emergency treatment centres were running at every 50 km on NHs. Highway patrols were working round the clock to prevent violations, and move vehicles involved in accidents. 

BJP Man Held over Social Media Post

Chennai: The Chitlapakkam police on Friday arrested BJP Labour Wing secretary Kalyana Raman (50) for allegedly posting a message against a minority community on a social networking site last month. Condemning the arrest, BJP State president Tamilisai Soundararajan charged the police with being intolerant. “If sharing a difference of opinion is offensive, then where should the line of freedom of expression be drawn,” she asked. A plaint against Kalyana Raman was filed by the Manithaneya Makkal Katchi on December 30.
