Thirumalai Nayak Birth Anniversary Celebrated in Madurai

MADURAI: The State government on Sunday celebrated the 433rd birth anniversary of King Thirumalai Nayak in the city. As the Chief Minister J Jayalalithaa recently announced to celebrate Nayak’s birthday as a government function, four state ministers including Sellur K Raju (Cooperation), K T Rajendra Balaji (Information and special programme implementation), B V Ramana (Milk and dairy development) and T K M Chinnayya (Animal husbandry), garlanded his statue at Thirumalai Nayak Mahal.

Meanwhile, Naidu community associations and other Telugu speaking people celebrated the anniversary in various places of the temple city. The legendary king who ruled Madurai between 1627 and 1659 was known for various achievements especially architecture of Thirumalai Nayak Mahal, Teppakulam tank of Vandiyur Mariamman temple and a part of Meenakshi Amman temple, said N Ganeshan, Regional Assistant Director of ASI.
