Students from western Tamil Nadu bagged the coveted top ranks, according to results for Class XII Board examinations 2015-16 released on Tuesday.
K H Jeshwanth and V Aarti from Sri Vidya Mandir Higher Secondary School in Uthangarai, Krishnagiri district, who scored a whooping 1,195 out of 1,200 were the state toppers. Close on her heels was G Pavithra from Shree Niketan Matric HSS, Tiruvallur by scoring 1,194.
V S Vaenupreetha from SKV HSS, Kandampalayam in Namakkal secured the third rank by scoring 1,193. Girls continued to maintain a large margin over boys in terms of pass percentage(Boys-87.9 %, Girls-94.4 % ; Overall - 91.4 %). There was a marginal increase in overall pass percentage compared to the previous year (90.6 %).
The number of centums tumble in physics and mathematics. Only five students in the state managed to score centum in the physics paper which had more application-oriented questions, opposed to 124 last year. The number of students who scored in mathematics came down from 9,710 to 3,361 this year. Out of the 8.7 lakh students who appeared for the exam this year, only 57 % (4.9 lakh students) secured an aggregate of 60 % and above.
Students in Chennai schools showed up badly in the ranks tally compared to their counterparts in other districts. However, D J Chatriya Kavin from Good Shepherd Matric HSS topped the state in other language category by scoring 1,195. S Shruthi from the same school secured the second rank in this category by scoring 1,194.
