CHENNAI: Chief Minister J Jayalalithaa, who has been in the hospital for nearly two months, is expected to be shifted from the ICU soon, said Prathap C Reddy, Chairman of Apollo Hospitals.

“She was kept in the ICU only because we want to keep her safe from any infections,” he said, adding that the doctors at the hospital have decided to give her ventilator support for 15-20 minutes only as a precautionary measure so as not to tax her lungs too much. Jaya still has the tracheotomy tube.

“She is communicating well with everyone around her including the doctors, and also enquires about the treatments she is undergoing,” said Reddy, adding that she could return home any time she wished and that the decision was up to her.
