CHENNAI: The former DMDK whip in the Assembly, VC Chandrakumar, whose Makkal DMDK recently merged with DMK, was made the joint secretary of DMK’s propaganda wing. This announcement was made by the party’s general secretary K Anbalagan here on Sunday.

Chandrakumar, elected to the Assembly in 2011 from Erode East, remained close to the DMDK founder Vijayakanth and was a vocal opponent of the AIADMK in the Assembly after the alliance of both the parties fell apart.

However, he became a virulent critic of DMDK and its core group of Premalatha and Sudhish before the May 16 Assembly polls after the party failed to clinch an alliance with DMK. Breaking away from the parent party, he floated Makkal DMDK, and joined hands with the DMK for the polls but failed to repeat a win at the hustings, sources said. Later he merged his party with the DMK at a meeting in Salem.

Two other former MLAs SR Parthiban and CH Sekar, who broke away from DMDK, were made election wing secretary and resolutions committee member respectively, according to a press note issued by Anbalagan.

Prof Constantine Ravindran has been nominated as joint secretary of the media unit while S Abdul Kader has been appointed joint secretary of the farmers wing of DMK.
