DMK chief M Karunanidhi admitted to hospital for a minor procedure; to be discharged later today

CHENNAI: DMK president M Karunanidhi has been admitted to a private hospital here on Wednesday morning for an endoscopic procedure. He is to undergo the procedure to change a food intake tube at Kauvery Hospital at Alwarpet.

According to a medical bulletin issued by Kauvery Hospital, "DMK president and former TN CM M Karunanidhi has been admitted today for a minor procedure-change of PEG (percutaneous endoscopic gastrostomy) tube."

The hospital management has said that he would be discharged from hospital later today.

Karunanidhi's wife Rajathiammal, daughters Selvi and Kanimozhi MP are with him at the hospital, sources said.

The DMK patriarch, who has been at home since October, 2016, underwent a tracheotomy last December following acute breathing problems.
