COIMBATORE: BJP is spreading hate in the state for political mileage, charged CPM politburo member Prakash Karat. He was here on Monday to participate in the inaugural of the Coimbatore People’s Platform, a collective formed to fight against fundamentalism.
Addressing the gathering, he said, “The platform has been formed at the right time as the BJP is trying to make inroads here with hate politics. BJP has hijacked the AIADMK for their own political gain and also to implement the RSS agenda in Tamil Nadu. But in Coimbatore, secular forces have joined hands.” Karat also appealed to people to fight the hate politics of BJP, RSS and its fringe outfits.
Similarly, VCK president Thol Thirumavalavan also criticised the merger of AIADMK party. “We do not know whether the cadre are happy. But, PM Modi is happier than anyone. He poured wishes on social media soon after O Panneerselvam took the oath,” Thirumavalavan said, adding, “We wished for the merger of two factions in order to make the ruling party stronger, so that it would rule out communal forces. Instead, both he factions were seeking opinion from the BJP.”
DMK women’s wing secretary M K Kanimozhi, who is also an MP, heavily criticised the BJP for its hate politics. “But the communal forces could not enter the state till the time people remember Periyar’s ideology.”
“If the PM had shown the same interest on the NEET issue, students in the state would have been benefited. If he had showed the same concern on the farmers issues, the farmers protesting in Delhi would have returned home by now,” Kanimozhi charged.
‘Modi the happiest’
The prime minister suffered some flak, with both the VCK chief and DMK women wing secy Kanimozhi accusing him of using AIADMK merger for gains.
