CHENNAI: Taking a strong exception to the State government’s order divesting the key subjects so far looked after by School Education Secretary T Udhayachandran from him, Satta Panchayat Iyakkam (SPI) and Manithaneya Makkal Katchi on Saturday urged the government to restore all subjects to him again and make him the full-fledged secretary in the department.

In a statement here, SPI said that in the past, Udhayachandran, an honest officer was known for conducting local body elections in Papapatti and Keeripatti in Madurai district and for exposing the irregularities in Tamil Nadu Public Service Commission.

After taking over as School Education Secretary in March, he had brought in many reforms in school education department. “Now, his importance in the department has been reduced just because he was firm on filling up vacancies for teachers post and for effecting the transfer of teachers in an honest manner,” the SPI alleged. MMK leader MH Jawahirullah, in a statement, echoed similar views and urged the government to restore the subjects looked after by Udhayachandran to him again at the earliest.
