CHENNAI: AMID the hullabaloo over rejection of nomination papers of independent candidates, film actor Vishal and the late Chief Minister Jayalalithaa’s niece J Deepa, opposition parties are planning to hold a massive public meeting to launch campaign in favour of DMK candidate Maruthu Ganesh in RK Nagar on December 11 with top leaders M K Stalin, Vaiko, Thirunavukkarasar and Thol Thirumavalavan sharing dais.
The opposition’s show of strength in the run-up to the politically significant by-election, necessitated by the demise of Jayalailthaa, was originally planned to be hosted on December 7 but was deferred due to predictions of inclement weather conditions. DMK leaders are working overtime to make the event big in its ambitious bid to wrest the constituency from AIADMK that had predominantly been preferred by the electorate.
All top guns of the opposition parties, including Vaiko (MDMK), Thol Thirumavalavan (VCK) and R Mutharasan (CPI), will speak at the meeting, sharing the dais with the DMK and its allies - Congress, IUML and MMK. However, CPM leaders are expected to stay away as the party had already made it clear that it would campaign for DMK candidate separately.
