THOOTHUKUDI: A buttermilk vendor was crushed to death when the roof of the hall in Tamil Nadu's famed Tiruchendur Subramania Swamy temple crashed on Thursday around 9.45 am. Her name is yet to be ascertained.

Two more persons were rescued from the 30-year-old hall where roof — known as 'Giri Prahara Mandapam' — had collapsed. A major tragedy was averted since there were hardly any devotees in the area when the incident took place.

The 2000-year-old Thiruchendur temple, located in southern Tamil Nadu, is considered as one of the important pilgrimage places in the state and draws devotees throughout the year. It was patronaged by the Pandiya and Chera kings.
