By-election to RK Nagar constituency scheduled for April 12

Filing of nominations will begin from March 16 with the last date for the process set on March 23.

CHENNAI: The much expected by-election to RK Nagar Assembly constituency which fell vacant following the death of former Chief Minister J Jayalalithaa will be held on April 12. 

Filing of nominations will begin from March 16 with the last date for the process set on March 23. 

Scrutiny of nominations will be held on March 24 and the last date for withdrawal of candidates is March 27. Counting of votes will be held on April 17 and the results are expected to be announced on the same day.

This by-election will be crucial for all political parties in the State particularly for the two factions of the AIADMK led by VK Sasikala and O Panneerselvam. Besides, Jayalalithaa's niece Deepa Jayakumar has already declared that she would contest the by-election to RK Nagar constituency.
