CHENNAI: Former minister and DMK MLA Poongothai Aladi Aruna on Tuesday urged the State government to first create awareness about Rubella vaccine and its benefits, to make it a success.
Raising the issue during zero hour, she said awareness about the vaccine was very poor among public.
Social media had been spreading wrong information about it, including claiming that the vaccine would prevent pregnancy, she said. “Herd immunity is the primary objective of the drive. The time chosen for implementation of the programme was wrong since it is exam time,” she said, and alleged that in many places it was administered without the consent of the parents.
