CHENNAI: Taking strong exception to the criticism from many parties for unveiling the portrait of the late Chief Minister J Jayalalithaa in the State Assembly, former Chief Minister O Panneerselvam on Saturday said “People of Tamil Nadu have not opposed the portrait of Amma in the Assembly.

Only those who are jealous of AIADMK are raising objections. Devotees will never say that the idol of their deity should not be installed in the temple.”

He said the people are waiting for that golden day when Jayalalithaa’s portrait would be unveiled in the Assembly hall. “Those who lack political decency are raising their voice.”
Indirectly hitting at Congress and other parties, Panneerselvam said “Some have the grouse that they could not come to power after 1967.

Some other people are worried that they could not even send a single member to the Assembly. When Amma assumed office for the sixth time, the dreams of many of becoming Chief Minister were thwarted.  Since they could not get over that worry, they are opposing the unveiling of Amma’s portrait.”
