CHENNAI: Amidst the political situation in Tamil Nadu, three allies of ruling AIADMK called on DMK president and former Chief Minister M Karunanidhi at his Gopalapuram residence here on Thursday evening.

The three legislators-Thamimun Ansari (Manithaneya Jananayaka Katchi), Karunaas (Mukkulathor Pulipadai) and U Thaniarasu (Kongu Youth Forum) had a 20-minute long meeting with the DMK patriarch who has been staying indoors since October last year owing to failing  health. The meeting assumes political significance, though they sought to downplay the event.

“As the seniormost leader of the country, we called on Kalaignar and inquired about his health,” Tamimun Ansari told reporters outside Karunanidhi’s residence.

He added that the three leaders wanted the DMK leader’s voice to reverberate again. The legislator, representing Nagapattinam constituency, said Karunanidhi shook hands with them and waved his hand when they were leaving.

Thaniarasu also maintained there was nothing political about the meeting with the Dravidian leader.
