CHENNAI : Reacting sharply to the “farcical” day-to-day developments in the issue relating to the election to the Bar Council of Tamil Nadu and Puducherry, Justice K Chandru, a retired judge of the Madras High Court, has suggested that retired judges - Justices G M Akbar Ali and T Mathivanan - resign from the post of Returning Officers (ROs).

“It is sad to note that the duo are subjected to humiliation. A ‘clerk’ (BCI secretary) is dictating terms to the two retired judges of the High Court. One cannot serve as slaves. What is the work they are supposed to discharge and that too on whose behalf?” he said. Justice Chandru claimed he was asked to be an RO, but he declined. He had acted as a court commissioner to conduct elections in 2005. But it was a worthless job, which ended in humiliation as there are too many power centres,” he said.
