Tamil Nadu CM Edappadi K Palaniswami’s cash incentives for Commonwealth Games medallists

CHENNAI: Chief Minister Edappadi K Palaniswami on Monday congratulated sportspersons Sathiyan, Sharath Kamal, Dipika Karthik, Saurav Ghosal and Joshna Chinappa, who have won medals at the Commonwealth Games being held at Gold Coast, Australia, and announced high cash incentives for them.

Sathiyan won silver and bronze medals in the table tennis mixed doubles event and men's doubles event. With these, he has won three medals in the Commonwealth Games. He will receive Rs 30 lakh for the silver medal and Rs 20 lakh for the bronze medal. This is apart from the sum of Rs 50 lakh already announced by the Chief Minister.

Sharath Kamal won silver medal in the table tennis men's doubles and bronze medal in the table tennis men's singles. This is the third medal he won in the Commonwealth Games. For silver medal, he will receive Rs 30 lakh and for bronze medal Rs 20 lakh. He will also get Rs 50 lakh that was already announced.

Dipika Karthik, who won two silver medals in the squash women's doubles event and squash mixed doubles event, will receive Rs 60 lakh (Rs 30 lakh each for two silver medals). Saurav Ghosal, who won a silver medal in the squash mixed doubles event, will get Rs 30 lakh as an incentive. Joshna Chinappa who won a silver medal in the squash women's doubles event will receive Rs 30 lakh.
