CHENNAI: Around 150 differently-abled children and their parents staged a protest in Tana Street in Purasawalkam against alleged corruption in organising the Special Olympics for children and adults with intellectual disabilities.Accusing a senior official of the Special Olympics Bharat-Tamil Nadu of assuming power without elections, they demanded that he be removed from the post.

The Special Olympics Bharat- Tamil Nadu is a national sports federation recognised by the Union Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports for the development of sports opportunity for the people with intellectual disabilities.

The protesters said that the Special Olympics Bharat-Tamil Nadu has to be registered under the Societies Act and that neither a constitution nor bye laws has been framed for the Special Olympics. S Namburajan, state general secretary, Tamil Nadu Association for the Rights of All Types of Differently-Abled and Caregivers (TARATDAC) said that with the protest evoking barely any official response, they would  ask authorities to intervene at the local sports meet.
