CHENNAI: Fisheries Minister D Jayakumar on Tuesday denied as baseless the reports that a close relative of Chief Minister Edappadi K Palaniswami was being interrogated by the IT sleuths and that he was forcefully taken for interrogation by the IT department.

“The IT department is conducting raids based on some information. Any attempt to link these raids with the State government with a view to maligning the government is condemnable.  The in-law of the Chief Minister is in his residence and he was not interrogated. A private television channel is spreading canards in this regard and it is highly improper,” Jayakumar told reporters.

He reiterated that the contractors being interrogated by IT sleuths now had been in the profession for many decades and had taken contract works during the DMK regime too.
