DHARMAPURI: The proposed Salem-Chennai Green Corridor is not the need of the hour, said former Minister of Health and Family Welfare Anbumani Ramadoss on the second day of the public hearing at Irulapatti.

As per his announcement for a two-day meet with people in and around Harur and Pappareddipatti, Ramadoss spoke to farmers and stakeholders of Irulapatti, who stand to lose their lands and livelihoods to the proposed Chennai-Salem Greenfield Expressway Corridor (GEC), on the second day.

Addressing the villagers, he said, “Salem city is comparatively smaller than Coimbatore, Tiruchy and Madurai, with a population of only 9 lakh people. So, the number of daily commuters is also far less.
So, spending over `10,000 crores for such comparatively less-populated city is not wise. The funds can be instead be used for other development purposes,” he said.
