Puducherry’s Budget receives Ministry approval

PUDUCHERRY: After speculation of political vendetta, the Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA) on Tuesday granted approval to the 2018-19 Budget of the Union  Territory of Puducherry, 45 days after it was sent to the ministry.

Chief minister V Narayanasamy said the date for presentation of the Budget would be decided in consultation with Assembly Speaker V Vaithilingam.

The budget outlay of `7,530 crore with a projected central assistance of `389 crores for central schemes and centrally sponsored schemes was approved after the UT replied to clarifications sought by MHA. The Budget had been cleared by the Union Finance Ministry.

Assembly’s Budget session was adjourned on June 5, two days after being convened as the Budget could not be presented.
