THOOTHUKUDI: THE CB-CID police probing the police firing and the following riots conducted field investigation at the spots here in Thoothukudi. A team of 100 personnel attached to CB-CID wing of the State police headed by its Additional Superintendent of Police Mariraja began combing operations at the collectorate on Saturday.

Experts of Bomb Detection and Disposal Squad (BDDS), Ballistics department and Forensic Science department were pressed into field investigation.

They used metal detectors for the combing operation to find materials such as bullets, cartridges and other explosives, if any, that were fired during police shootout.

The team combed collectorate premises for a day on Saturday, and the adjoining Sterlite employees residential quarters on Sunday. The field investigation continued at Third Mile, P&T colony on Palayamkottai road and at Anna Nagar, Threspuram where police used arms to disperse the mob when the anti-Sterlite rally turned violent on May 22 and 23. The incident had claimed 13 lives.
