TIRUPUR: An industrialist S Sivamoorthy (47), a close kin of former Finance minister P. Chidambaram who was reported missing since Monday has been allegedly murdered by three unknown persons.

According to police sources, Sivamoorthy had gone missing since Monday noon and his mobile was switched off. Police who were on high alert found out that he was murdered and his body was dumped in a tank near Krishnagiri.

Sivamoorthy who used to run a knitwear export company in Uthukuli road near Karumarampalayam, Tirupur left for Coimbatore by car on Monday. He, however, did not return home till Tuesday. His mobile also remained switched off. The last call made was to his father saying he would be back home for lunch but he never made it. Though it was said that he called from Coimbatore his mobile signal was finally detected near Sathyamangalam.

On Monday night police got a tip-off and arrested three men Vimal, Manibharathi and Gowtham near Ambur and after interrogation, they confessed to have murdered Sivamoorthy. They had also dumped the body in a tank near Krishnagiri. The police who have launched a probe rushed to the spot to search Sivamoorthy's body.

The motive for murder is yet to be ascertained by police, though the initial speculation is that it may be a murder due to business rivalry.
