CHENNAI: A day after tweeting in support of Sterlite copper smelter plant which has been closed down by the State government, Jaggi Vasudev, founder, Isha Foundation, on Thursday said he did not support Sterlite or any other industry or political party, but environmental violations should be addressed legally.

When Fisheries Minister D Jayakumar was answering queries of mediapersons, a scribe asked whether the government would have a relook at the closure of the Sterlite plant since the two godmen - Jaggi Vasudev and Baba Ramdev had opposed the move. The minister replied in the negative saying “We don’t care for the views of both godmen. The government is firm on its view.”

Following this, Jaggi Vasudev responded to the minister. His tweet said “Dear Minister, I did not recommend reopening of any industry. First of all it is for the government to ensure there are no violations, if there is any dispute, take legal recourse .I am not in support of #Sterlite or any other industry or political party. Address environmental violations legally. Burning public property or closing down businesses is not in national interest. Do not politicise, Lives have been lost.”
