THOOTHUKUDI: Advocate Vanchinathan, the key person behind the anti-Sterlite agitation, was sent to three-day police custody, on Friday. The Thoothukudi police arrested him last week, in connection with a rioting case registered at the SIPCOT police station. He had also participated in the anti-Sterlite rally held on May 22 that took an ugly turn, with 13 members of the general public being killed when the police opened fire.

The police produced Vanchinathan before the Judicial Magistrate 3 Thamilselvi seeking police custody for investigation. The counsel for Vanchinathan and advocates strongly objected to the police custody during the hearing. However, the magistrate remanded him.
