TENKASI: Condemning the power tariff hike, P R Pandian, president of Tamil Nadu Federation of All Farmers’ Association, said they were not consulted before hiking the tariff, here on Saturday.
“The Union government’s Electricity Amendment Bill is against the farmers and poor people.

While the chief minister is openly opposing this bill, why is he not seeking public opinion and holding public hearings on this matter? We, the farmers, are not consulted yet on this. Stalin spoke against this bill during the meeting of south Indian Chief Ministers.

However, there is no transparency in the actions of the State government. He is writing to Prime Minister Narendra Modi against this bill. On the other hand, he is implementing its provisions in Tamil Nadu. He should take the responsibility for the power tariff hike which is against the people of Tamil Nadu,” said Pandian to the media persons after taking part in his federation’s office bearers meeting in Courtallam.

He further added, “Our federation is supporting Rahul Gandhi’s foot march as he protested against the three farm laws in the Parliament. The benefit of the crop insurance scheme is going to private corporate companies, not to farmers, in the Modi-led government,” Pandian said.
