CHENNAI: Eight government tribal residential schools in the state have registered a pass percentage of 100 per cent while 16 other schools out of the 28 have registered a pass percentage of over 90 per cent in the recent Class 12 examinations.

According to data, 1,245 students from tribal residential schools wrote the exams, of which 1,171 passed, registering a pass percentage of 94.06 per cent.

Schools that registered 100 per cent results include those located in Sitheri in Dharmapuri, Perumbarai in Dindigul, Maniyarpalayam in Kallakurichi, Vazhavandhinadu in Namakkal, Arunoothumalai in Salem, Kujappanai in The Nilgiris, Topsengaatupatti in Tiruchy and Pattraikaadu in Tiruvannamalai.

The pass percentage of the Vazhavanthinadu government tribal residential school increased by 17.59 per cent from its previous year's performance. Out of the total schools, 15 of them managed to improve their performance.

"Last year, schools under the tribal welfare department were criticised for their poor performance when compared to government schools. We assessed the marks of the students after the half-yearly examinations and found them to be poor. Following this, special classes and revision tests were conducted frequently. With an increase in concentration, the students improved well," said an official from the tribal welfare department.
