According to sources, Edayarpalayam Road is one of the vital roads in the city connecting Marudhamalai Main Road with Thadagam-Anaikatti Road, but it has been left dilapidated since the past few years due to various issues.

The State Highways department has been constructing drains on both sides of the road while the Indian Oil Corporation Limited (IOCL) has been installing gas pipelines, and the Tamil Nadu Water Supply and Drainage Board (TWAD) has been carrying out UGD and water supply pipeline works on the road, due to which it has been awaiting repair works since a long time.

A portion of the drinking water supply pipeline burst on Thursday, which led to the disruption of water supply to  Edayarpalayam. The civic body officials have cited the ongoing works by three departments on the road as the reason for the pipeline CCMC Commissioner M Prathap visited the spot along with Deputy Commissioner Dr M Sharmila and other officials and inspected the damaged portions of the pipeline on Friday.

Speaking to TNIE, Prathap said about 120 m of the drinking water pipeline burst and as the pipelines were not installed deep and due to the ongoing works, they got damaged. “As far as water supply is concerned, five out of six tanks have been supplying water now. Water supply has been disrupted in a few areas. The civic body officials along with the TWAD board and the highways department have been carrying out repair works in full swing. The broken pipeline will be replaced and the issue will be sorted out in a day or two,” he added.
