Job scam: Engineering graduate, brother cheated of Rs 15 lakh

VIRUDHUNAGAR:  A 29-year-old man from Nagercoil along with two others were booked for cheating an engineering graduate by promising government jobs for him and his brother at the secretariat office in 2022. The three had obtained Rs 15 lakh from the victims.

Sources said the graduate, RR Raguram (30), a civil engineer from Arupukottai, was searching for jobs. Knowing this, Lakshmi Devi, a colleague of Raguram's mother-in-law, assured she can arrange a job at the secretariat. "She asked them to pay an amount and introduced Vellathurai (53), a native of Tirunelveli.

In January 2022, Vellathurai introduced Raguram to Daniel (29), a broker from Nagercoil. Initially, Daniel asked them to pay half of Rs 15 lakh and the rest after getting the job. Raguram pledged gold ornaments and credited Rs 8 lakh to Daniel in February 2022. Upon Lakshmidevi's insistence to send the remaining amount to Daniel, Raguram credited Rs 7 lakh. However, the duo did not get any appointment letter," added sources.

Upon knowing they have been cheated, Raguram moved court. Based on the directions of the court, a case was registered against Lakshmi Devi, Vellathurai, and Daniel.
