CHENNAI: AIADMK general secretary Edappadi K Palaniswami has convened the party’s executive committee meeting on May 2 to discuss the next course of action after the revival of its alliance with BJP.

The meeting assumes significance as this is the first high-level meeting after the party formally entered into an alliance with BJP following Union Home Minister Amit Shah’s visit last week.

Palaniswami has not expressed his opinion in detail about the alliance in public till now. On April 11, Shah announced the alliance and said NDA will fight the 2026 assembly elections in Tamil Nadu under the leadership of Palaniswami and form a coalition government.

In the meantime, dissatisfaction over the alliance, especially the decision to form a coalition government, seems to be surfacing at different levels in the party, as witnessed in a couple of internal meetings of AIADMK in the last few days.

A minority wing functionary from Pudukkottai district resigned from the party on Sunday. Former minister and senior AIADMK leader Sellur K Raju made cryptic statements to the media in Madurai on Monday saying he would react in detail about the alliance after 15 days.

The executive committee meeting will be attended by all district secretaries, secretaries of other states where AIADMK has its branches, MPs, MLAs, and headquarters secretaries. It could prove challenging for Palaniswami to convince all the party functionaries and make them wholeheartedly accept and work for the alliance.
