CHENNAI: The Madras High Court has stayed all further proceedings against all the accused in the case registered by the Triplicane police in an alleged bid to poach Uthangarai TVK MLA N Elaiyaraja by offering him `35 crore, for switching sides when a proposed no-trust motion against the Assembly Speaker JCD Prabhakar would be moved.
The first bench of Chief Justice Sushrut Arvind Dharmadhikari and Justice G Arul Murugan passed the interim orders on Tuesday while hearing the petitions filed by S Sethuraj and Karthik who were granted bail by the court.
Alleging foul play in the investigation, the petitioners sought the court to order an investigation by CBI in order to ensure a fair probe.
The bench adjourned the hearing to August 24. It may be noted that the court had already stayed the proceedings against Ramesh on a petition he had filed for a CBI probe.
Meanwhile, Justice GK Ilanthiraiyan granted bail to six more people arrested in the case. They included the main accused IPDS Thirunavukkarasu, Thiagarajan, Rajesh, Ganesan, M Srinivasan and Selvam.
Chief Minister C Joseph Vijay on Tuesday inaugurated completed projects and laid foundation stones for new infrastructure works worth Rs 1,624 crore, spanning housing, higher education, municipal infrastructure, drinking water supply and urban transport. The projects were launched through video conferencing from the Secretariat. Among the major initiatives, the CM inaugurated 4,260 tenements constructed by the Tamil Nadu Urban Habitat Development Board (TNUHDB) under the ‘Housing for All’ programme at a cost of Rs 525.8 crore. He also inaugurated an AC bus shelter developed by the Chennai Metropolitan Development Authority (CMDA) near Dr Ambedkar College in Perambur at a cost of Rs 1.4 crore. The facility includes seating for 45 passengers, a nursing room, purified drinking water, CCTV surveillance and separate restrooms for men and women.
