KARAIKAL: Police booked a case against three staff of GH ambulance service after a patient who was being taken from Karaikal to Puducherry Government hospital ambulance died on the way on Saturday night, allegedly because the oxygen tube got detached from the cylinder midway.
The deceased was identified as T Revathy (45) of Kottuchery in Karaikal. Based on a complaint by the woman’s daughter T Vijitha, who accompanied her in the ambulance, Karaikal town police registered a case against the male nurse, supervisor and in-charge of ambulance service.
As per the sources, Revathy suffered chest pain and was admitted in the Karaikal GH on August 20. She was prescribed an angiogram for which Revathy was taken in the ambulance with oxygen support on Saturday evening.
Sources said that when the ambulance was passing near Chidambaram, the tube supplying oxygen got detached from the oxygen cylinder with a sound. Even as male nurse tried to fix the tube, her pulse rate went down. The ambulance was taken to the nearby Cuddalore hospital, where doctors declared Revathy dead.
