CHENNAI: Higher Education Minister P Viswanathan on Saturday said the state government would soon unveil a comprehensive plan to strengthen entrepreneurship skills and enhance employability of the students.

Speaking to reporters after the Founder’s Day celebrations of Ethiraj College for Women in Chennai, the minister said there would be no corruption in the higher education department starting from the top. He said the department would soon launch a dedicated website through which the public could lodge corruption complaints.

He added Chief Minister C Joseph Vijay is closely monitoring corruption complaints across government departments. “The chief minister will also soon announce an increase in the limit for collateral-free educational loans for the students in a couple of days,” he said.

Speaking at the event, he said, “Education should be linked with employability and entrepreneurship, not just learning lessons. The end of college education should ensure a job for students.”

Praising philanthropist VL Ethiraj for establishing an exclusive women’s college in 1948, Viswanathan described the initiative as a milestone in women’s education.

The minister also highlighted the TVK government’s efforts to eradicate drug abuse, particularly in schools and colleges. He said eliminating drugs would contribute to ensuring the safety of women, adding that India’s progress was closely linked to the advancement of women.
