Cash, liquor and freebies worth Rs 151 crore seized in TN

The CEO said so far, 932 petitions have been received in connection with election-related complaints, of which only 20 are pending.

CHENNAI: Chief Electoral Officer Archana Patnaik on Monday said election officials have so far seized cash and other items, including gold and silver, worth Rs 151 crore. This includes Rs 30.53 crore cash, Rs 0.72 crore worth liquor, Rs 7.47 crore drugs/narcotics, Rs 92.02 crore worth precious metals and freebies worth Rs 22.19 crore.

The CEO said a total of 462 cases have been registered for violations of election rules. Gold seized in large quantities at two locations has been handed over to the Income Tax department and is currently under their examination.

The CEO said so far, 932 petitions have been received in connection with election-related complaints, of which only 20 are pending. No complaints have been received from the public, but political parties have filed complaints against one another.

The Election Commission has made available a user-friendly unified single portal ECINET, subsuming 40+ applications/websites through which the voter can avail and access various voter services.
