GHMC Among Most Corrupt, Says ACB

Express News Service

HYDERABAD: The Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation, revenue, health, engineering, transport and registration departments in the State capital are “the most corrupt” government wings. You may have known this by experience but now, the Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) itself has gone on record, pointing fingers at these departments.

“Each of these departments should have a working member from the ACB so that we can deal with their cases easily,” opined SK Chandrasekhar, DSP, ACB, Hyderabad.

Speaking at a press conference here on the eve of the International Anti-Corruption Day on Sunday, he said the Right to Information Act had helped the ACB unearth many graft cases. “We received complaints this way on abuse of power and misconduct by government officials,” he said. The ACB’s Hyderabad chapter has caught 24 corrupt officials in the city this year compared to 33 last year — the lesser number is attributed more to bifurcation than anything else.
