HYDERABAD:Chief Minister K Chandrasekhar Rao on Friday admitted there will be power woes in March and April but assured the people his government will overcome the same by purchasing power from outside.
“There are no power outages now and the same situation will be continued in summer too,” he told reporters. He pointed out that the government had already advised farmers not to raise paddy.
Elaborating on his plans for the summer, the Chief Minister said 500 MW would be bought from Kerala and another 400 MW from the Gayatri projects. “We are also planning to buy power from the north eastern grid. I have advised officials to go for power purchases in the open market. We are expecting 1,300 MW from the southern grid. Surplus power from captive generators too will be purchased,” he said.
According to him, 1,800 MW would be added this year. In normal course, the State has a shortage of 900-1,100 MW. In peak summer season, the shortage will be 1,800-1,900 MW.
In 2018-19, 1,800 MW would be added from Singareni and Bhupalapalli plants and another 280 MW from central power generating stations, he explained.

With this additional 2,000 MW, the power situation in the State will be stabilised, the Chief Minister said. “Later, the State will get 2,000 MW from Chhattisgarh. PGCIL lines will be completed in 12-15 months. Then, TS will have 10,600 MW. By 2017, TS will be able to supply 12 hours of power to farmers from 6 am to 6 pm in a single spell. After 2018, TS will be able to sell power to others,” he said.
On AP’s adamant attitude in sharing Krishnapatnam and Hinduja power, he said he would leave it to the wisdom of the AP government.
