Express News Service

KARIMNAGAR:Karimnagar MP Vinod Kumar has requested the district collector to persuade the State and Centre to construct a food park in the district.

MP Vinod Kumar sent a letter to the district collector Neetu Prasad along with a detailed project report and the benefits of opening a food park in the district, on Wednesday.

He stressed that this initiative will help the development of the food processing industry in the district.

Though Rangareddy, Khammam and Mahbubnagar have been granted food parks, Karimnagar district is yet to be given this opportunity by the Union government.

The MP said that the food park will reduce wastage of agricultural products and will create more employment opportunities in rural areas. The Centre has accorded top priority for the development of the food processing industry and allotted Rs 2000 crore fund to National Bank for Agriculture and Rural Development (NABARD), so that cluster of food processing units sprout in the country.

In the report he compiled, the MP pointed out that Karimnagar is a district which has registered rapid growth and development in recent years.

It has rich resources and is eligible to avail financial assistance from the Centre, under this scheme.
