ADILABAD: The state government has not allocated the required funds for development of tourism in Adilabad district despite chief minister K Chandrasekhar Rao's promise to develop the district as 'Kashmir of Telangana'.
Rao had alleged during electioneering in 2014 that Andhra rulers had ignored development of tourism in the district.
"Adilabad district has a huge potential. It has waterfalls, forest reserves and dense forests apart from forts and important temples which can be developed as tourism spots," KCR had pointed out.
However, the state government has not released any fund to the tourism department in the district for development of the tourist hotspots.
"Adilabad is a paradise for nature lovers and the successive governments have failed to develop tourism here. The same is continuing now," bemoaned a nature lover.
Last year, the district tourism officials had identified around 20 tourist spots and sent proposals for their development at a cost of Rs 75.80 crore.
The only hotspot that has got the government's nod in the last two years is the Komaram Bheem Museum. The chief minister had laid the foundation stone for the museum at the late tribal leader's birthplace in Jodeghat village in Kerameri mandal in 2014 and sanctioned Rs 25 crore for a memorial.
District tourism officer V Ravi Kumar said the Komaram Bheem Memorial would be completed before the death anniversary of the tribal leader who had fought the Asaf Jahi dynasty for the liberation of the then Hyderabad state.
