Goda Kalyanam Laddu Auction Fetches Rs 77L

SANGAREDDY: The Goda Srinivasa kalyanam was held at Sri Mahalaxmi Goda Sametha Sri Virat Venkateshwara Swamy temple on the outskirts of Sangareddy in Medak district on Wednesday. But  what became talk of the town was the auction of a 25 kg laddu which was taken home by former deputy chief minister Damodar Rajanarsimha’s wife Padmini, who won the auction with a record bid of Rs 77, 77,777 and 77 paisa. The auction broke the Balapur Ganesh laddu record.

The laddu auction is held on the occasion of Goda Srinivasa Kalyanam in the Sri Vaikuntapuram Venkateshwara Swamy temple on the outskirts of Sangareddy every year.

Previous year the same laddu was won by TRS district president Murali Yadav for Rs 7.77 lakh.

The temple committee chairman held the auction on Wednesday wherein devotees and temple committee members participated. The temple committee fixed the price of the 25 kg laddu at Rs 7,777.

During the auction, the temple women workers bid went up to as high as Rs 3.80 lakh. It was then when Dr. Kumara Raja from Sangareddy made a bid of Rs 55 lakh. The process gathered heat as Puram Pandaiah raised the bid to Rs 65 lakh.  Dr. Raja, countering Pandaiah, made a bid of Rs 66 lakh. However, former deputy chief minister Damodar Rajanarsimha’s wife Padmini made the final call at Rs 77, 77, 777 and 77 paisa when the hammer went  down.
