TS govt embarking on paperless admin

Govt chooses NIC’s e-Office software which will be introduced in all deparments in phases

Express News Service

HYDERABAD: The Telangana government is progressing towards paperless administration. The much- awaited e-Office will be in place in some sections of the government departments soon and it will be implemented in the entire administration in phases.

After considering various software programmes for e-Office, the state government has finally decided to take the software of National Informatics Centre (NIC) of the central government.

“We have considered KM-ATOM software developed by the TS Technological Services (TSTS), e-Despatch and e-Office monitoring system. Finally, we have adopted e-Office of NIC,” an official at the State Project Monitoring Unit (SPMU) of the IT department told Express on Monday. The NIC software, adopted by Andhra Pradesh and some other states, has the advantage of a digital signature by the official concerned. Paperless office means that all the files and letters will be sent online. This will save time as there will be no physical movement of files. It also indicates the delay, if any, in file clearance.  “There will be no delay in clearing the files in the e-Office system,” sources said. The online file-monitoring system was introduced in some sections of the Medak district administration and implemented successfully. The GHMC is also implementing it. Now, depending on the interest of the secretary of the department concerned, one or two sections in each department will be asked to implement e-Office from next week. Later the entire administration will move towards paperless administration.

How it works

  •  Files will be sent and cleared online.
  •   Files will be moved from the superintendent to the secretary level.
  •   Digital signature will be given with password and digital token.
  •   Higher-ups can track where a file is pending.
  •  Files can be discussed online.
  •   It will minimise the usage of e-mail for communication among officers.
